Abstract


With the social transformation, in the wave of urbanization process,because ofeducational, economic, cultural and other factors, a number of older unmarriedwomen appear in the city, and people called them "Leftover Women ". Thus, thediscourse "Leftover Women " as a social phenomenon appears. Currently, studies bothdomestic and international about "urban older unmarried women " and the discourse"Leftover Women " are mainly focus on the reason influence and strategy of the"Leftover Women ", however, people pay less attention on the social identity of thediscourse "Leftover Women ".In-depth understanding of the social identity situationof the discourse"Leftover Women ", will help to develop appropriate languagesymbols to express the life experience of women different from men,explore the newvision of women ’s experience in a new culture,as well as add respect and tolerance tothe different understanding of social cultural on new literacy.This study is to discuss the social identity situation of the discourse "LeftoverWomen" through the three dimensions：know, understand and accept. Employing acombination of research methods of qualitative and quantitative, this study reproducesthe occurrence and development of mechanisms for the dissemination of the discourse"Leftover Women ";reveals the social identity situation of the discourse "LeftoverWomen"in the above communication mechanism; explains the cultural forces behindthe social identity situation of the discourse "Leftover Women", so as to break someconcepts and assumptions take for granted.In the perspective of gender and by the explanation logic of the social cultural ofthe spread discourse, this study found that the discourse "Leftover Women"becomepopular term nowadays,which has a causal relationship with the development of newIT;the social identity situation of the discourse "LeftoverWomen "showing thecharacteristics of diversity and uncertainty,which reflects the slightly distorted carefor older unmarried women groups;in addition, changes in the community, askingpeople to re-examine the relations between men and women, the media also should becareful to use the new vocabulary, alerting to the potential harm for some people,especially for women who suppressed by the traditional culture and lack of speakingtheir own subjective experience.
