Objective To investigate and compare the therapeutic effects of the radiofrequency thermocoagulation of posterior ramus of lumbar nerve and neural blockade for the pain in elderly with lumbar vertebral compression fracture. Methods A total of 60 patients with lumbar vertebral compression fracture were randomized into two groups according to therapeutic strategies (n=30), Observation group (Group A), treated with the radiofrequency thermocoagulation of posterior ramus of lumbar nerve, Control group (Group C), treated with neural blockade. The therapeutic effects was assessed by Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) and ODI at 1 day before surgery, 1day,5day,3month,6month after surgery. Results Before treatment, there was no significant difference in VAS and ODI between the two groups; Before treatment, there was no significant difference in VAS and ODI between the two groups; Compared to pre-treatment, The VAS and ODI at 1day,5day, 3month,6month after treatment was significantly decreased in observation group (P< 0.05), The VAS and ODI at 1day,5day after treatment was significantly decreased in control group (P<0.05), The VAS and ODI at 3month,6month after treatment was no significant difference in control group (P>0.05); Compared to the control group, There was no significant difference in VAS and ODI at lday,5day after treatment (P> 0.05), there was significant decreased in VAS and ODI at 1day,5day,3month,6month after treatment (P<0.05)Conclusion The radiofrequency thermocoagulation of posterior ramus of lumbar nerve was better than neural blockade in the long-term effect for the pain in elderly with lumbar vertebral compression fracture.Application Along with the development of aging of the population,OVCF has become to be one of the frequent disease of the aged,1/3 among them behave to be chronicity intractable pain. According to lumbar neurotomia, we make use of radio frequency and nerve block of rami posteriores nervorum lumbalium to help relieve the pain of patient and improve their life quality.
