Abstract


The public high school international departments have to be qualified to recruit foreign students. Recent years have seen rapid development of international student departments, though the system is still in the initial stage of development, both in theory and in practice.This paper aims to make the international department of a High School in Beijing the leading research project, and the international students in this school the object of further intensive study. This paper proposes to study cultural backgrounds and characteristics of the international students, to analyze their campus life, education, school environment and cultural adaptation. The study of international students’cross-cultural adaptation degree is divided into four categories:excellent, good, average, bad and worse. The results show that:the international students’adaptation level to the campus living environment just get to average, while their adaptation to the education and teaching environment is average, but their adaptation to the external environment is worse.The public high schools have to meet the challenges in response to international students’ cross cultural adaptation in terms of teaching methods, teaching content, teaching staff, cultural values and other aspects. The policies and regulations are inadequate, as is the number of teachers and their understanding of international students. What’s more, the campus cultural building is insufficient.Therefore, this paper puts forward the countermeasures as follows:strengthening research, perfecting teaching management system, changing teaching methods, providing psychological counseling services and strengthening language training.
