Abstract

During the wave of reform and opening up, those new immigrants have come into the ranks ofemerging groups of China’s floating population. Their social statues hovering between the urban residentsand migrants workers, although they have higher level of human capital and culture than those migrantworkers, they still can not adjust into the society compared with those local residents, so integrating themainstream of the local society becomes a long and complex process.Sport as a senior product of human activity, it has turned into an essential part of our human society withit’s unique charm and express its obvious function and role in the process of social development more andmore.In this study, we make the influence that immigrant worker impact on the social integration as the subject,and select Ningbo as our study area since its better economic base and strong ability to absorb talents.Adopting Respondent Driven Sampling, extracted and identified500new immigrants as respondentswhile basing on the view of sports sociology, using of literature, questionnaires, expert interview, fieldobservations, statistics and other research methods to made a more in-depth survey and analysis against theintegration influence that new immigrants’ sport life impact on the social integration.The results show that in Ningbo city, the new immigrants have high awareness of physical health, andeconomic is no longer the main problem that effect their participation, but there are less respondents thatinvolved in the sports activities.Although they have high awareness of physical culture, they do not have better quality sports lifebecause of some objective factor. In the social integration, derived by factor analysis to explore the city ofNingbo, the new status of immigrant social integration is divided into five dimensions including social,cultural, psychological, living and economic,Those new immigrants have a strong subjective desire to assimilate into local society but with overalllow level of social integration. But the level of integration of social and cultural is relatively higher comparedwith psychological, living and economic.Residence, housing and economic are the main factors which affect the social integration of newimmigrants, however because of the charm of the city which they moved in still provide them more space of development for them, so they show a more neutral attitude of social satisfaction; the whole new immigrationlevel of Ningbo city is still lower because of the housing and residence, although they have higher level ofintegration in factors of social intercourse, cultural and psychological.Through analysis and discussion, with perspective of social networks, we found that sports activities paya very important role in participating individual social capital, individual social network size, occupationalcategories of individual social networks and interpersonal trust, so we make recommendation accordingly.
