Abstract


This paper mainly discusses the "wisdom" thought of Han Feizi in the perspective of the relationship between monarch and Tao. As the monarch could has a profound understanding of Tao or not, the monarch in Han Feizi contains two kinds of“wisdom”, meanwhile, because of the both interdependent and mutually exclusive relationship between monarch and its subjects, the subject in Han Feizi contains two kinds of“wisdom”as well. As the respective two“wisdom”of the monarch and its Tao differs in great and simple, Han Feizi try to interpret the "great wisdom" of Legalists through many solutions.In the introduction, after summing up a concise history of "wisdom" thought’ scholarship, I discuss its positive significance and the points need further discussing, then make a clear definition about the "wisdom" I’m going to interpret.The body part is divided into three chapters: the first chapter discusses the Tao thought of Laozi, the "Tao li" thought of Han Feizi and the relationship between monarch and its Tao.The second chapter different in detail respectively each two“wisdom”of the monarch and its Tao. The two“wisdom”of monarch can be summarized as a profound understanding of the "Tao" then observing the Law, or a random using of the "Tao" then playing the law, the former is great wisdom and the latter is simple; the two“wisdom”of the subjects can be summarized as fulfillment of responsibilities and absolute obedience, or forming cliques and being insubordinate, the former is great wisdom and the latter is simple. More over, it points out that Han Feizi prefer to the former.The third chapter discusses the way how the Legalists put such "great wisdom"thought into practice, that is, the monarch pursue it by the introspection and self-conscious action to understand Tao; the subjects’ pursuit of such wisdom need monarch’s help, which needs employing in conjunction with the Law, Puissance and Rein.The last part is conclusion, pointing out that the core of Han Feizi’s "great wisdom" thought is to interpret the political justice whose soul is wise monarch and loyal subjects, and to emphasize the unmovable political order between monarch and its Tao.
