Abstract


The software industry in China is developing rapidly. The software user interfacedesign is also becoming an important part of software investigation in general. There aremore and more attentions being put on software user interface design with lots ofachievement has been made in this area in recent years. But there are still a lot ofproblems of user interface design to be improved based on latest state of art. There islots of software with improper user interface design. Such software will not only causeuncomfortable feeling of software user, but also lead to unnecessary cost of people andmoney. So it’s extremely important and valuable of the further development of softwareindustry to deeply explore and study the recent status of user interface design andprovide solution to the problem which has identified.So the key topic of this master research project is to find out the problems of userinterface design in the application and develop specific proposal and solution for itThis project will take virtual library of Philips lighting GTD(Global TechnologyDevelopment) as example to make the suggestion and solution of the improvement onits user interface design based on usability engineering theory and end user driveninnovation concept.People-oriented was always regarded as the basic principle in science. And it is alsoas an one of important principle applied in the software industry named as “useroriented” is circle process, which purpose is mainly to enroll the ending user into thesoftware design as earlier as possible. According to this process, the user of PhilipsLighting virtual library was interviewed to understand the user experience duringapplication. Based on that, the requirements and functions of the software interface wereconcluded. And also the design proposal for Philips virtual library was madeaccordingly. In the process of design proposal evaluation, the design model was madeand then finished the interview according to this model. The problem of the softwarewas indentified and fixed by user test till reach the final user satisfaction.The purpose of this master thesis is to reveal and help to solve some of the commonproblems concerning this topic. As an example, it tries to find a concept to improve the user interface of the “Virtual Library of Lighting GTD Lamps Internet” in Philips. Thetheory of Human-Computer-Interaction and the method of “User Centered Design” willbe involved into this studies.
