Embedded system is a dedicated computer system and has been deep into all areas of the society. It is even more widely used in the field of industrial control because of its low power consumption, low cost and diminishable hardware and software. The paper will be in-depth study of the processor of ARM9architecture and Embedded Linux system, propose a design of ARM9industrial control panel based on the Embedded Linux system.We discuss the characteristics of Embedded systems and its development direction which combine ARM9processor and Embedded operating system. Concerning the actual needs of the industrial control panel, we select the CPU of control panel after comparing the X86and ARM. Considering the needs of the project and characteristics of several Embedded operating system, we use Embedded Linux for control panel’s operating system. After completion of the system hardware and software selection, we propose the overall design of industrial control panel.According to the overall design, we implement the hardware of industrial control panel which includes the system’s core circuit and peripheral circuit. The design of core circuit is composed of the SDRAM, NANDFLASH and NORFLASH. Control panel supports two methods starting and discuss its difference between them. The design of peripheral circuit includes the LCD, IDE and DM9000A circuit and so on. At the same time, we also implement the PC104Bus which bases on CPLD.About writing relevant soft program, we develop the Bootloader of the system, and then port Embedded Linux kernel together. Finally we port and write the drivers which focus on LCD, DM9000A and PC104Bus.
