Abstract


The emergence of sovereign wealth funds has been controversial because of the fear of politically inducted investments, because of the lack of transparency in the SWF industry, and other sensitive issues but mainly because it is the symbol of a much deep phenomenon:the reshape of the world’s economy and finance. Being China one of the main characters of this revolution, the aim of this research is to analyze the international investment strategy of China Investment Corporation, the Chinese Sovereign Wealth Fund in terms of preferred target companies of its deals.This research is composed by three main parts:o The first chapter provides an overview of Sovereign Wealth Funds as emerging players on the markets:their origin and recent boom, most common trends in terms of target companies and investment strategies for portfolio allocation and the awkward issue regarding transparency and accountability and the consequent interest and concerns of media and politicians.o The second chapter summarizes the main features of China Investment Corporationo The third chapter is the empirical part of the research and is based on the creation and analysis of a database containing a significant sample of CIC deals in the international equity market.
