Abstract

The preparation and properties of electro-conductive hydrogel modified electrodes were studied in this paper. Titanium foam and Titanium mesh electrodes modified by conductive hydrogel composed of polypyrrole, SWNTs and PEGDA-PAAm were successfully synthesized. Moreover, the drug release process from the two modified electrodes and the growth of nerve cells on modified Titanium mesh electrode were also studied. The electrode Ti foam/Gel/SWNTs/PPy-Dex was firstly prepared. SWNTs were well dispersed in hydrogels while PPy was successfully synthesized into the network of hydrogels, and the electrical property of the resulted electrodes was significantly improved. Compared with stainless steel, more hydrogels can be carried by Titanium foam, leading to a higher conductivity and drug loading. The electrode Ti/Gel/SWNTs/PPy-Dex with a thin and continuous surface structure was prepared, and the electrochemical property was improved due to the addition of SWNTs and PPy. Not only the steady linear release process was achieved by the modified electrode, but also the excellent bioactivity of Dex was maintained. In addition, PPy content, the concentration of SWNTs and the scan rates of CV can all affect the release of Dex.The modified Titanium mash electrode was used as the growth substrate of PC12cells. The addition of SWNTs and PPy could increase the mechanical property of hydrogels effevtively while the addition of Nerve growth factor (NGF) decrease the electrochemical property of the electrode. SEM revealed that CNT could enhance the differentiation of nerve cells, and PPy could not only improve the adhesion of cells, but also promote the differentiation of cells by encouraging the release of NGF.
