This dissertation describes the determination of heavy metalmigration in food contact materials.Nowadays, the safety of food contact is urgently to be improved, while the pollution of heavy metal is the most important. In comparisonwith the global standards, the Chinese standards require fewer elements, and less strict limits, and some test methods were established in the1980s.Recently, spectroscopic techniques have been developed very fast. For instance, Inductively Coupled Plasma Optical Emission Spectrometer(ICP-OES) has a high sensibility, high precision, low matrix effect and itcan determine several elements at the same time. This technique has beenwidely used in a variety of analytical fields. Graphite Furnace AtomicAbsorption Spectrophotometer (GFAAS) has a high effect of atomization, high sensibility, less sample volume, good selection, and it has beenmainly used in trace analysis.Through optimization of the work condition of ICP-OES and GFAAS,the method detection limit, calibration curve, precision and accuracy havebeen determined, and the results have been compared. It is revealed thatthe ICP-OES technique is preferable for determination of heavy metalsmigration in food contact materials. This technique can enhance the workefficiency and ensure the reliable results, and it can meet the worldwiderequirements.
