Transition metal-catalyzed atom transfer radical polymerization was found in 1995 a new living radical polymerization method, which RX (X = CI or Br) , as initiator, a transition metal complex compound as catalyst, can be successfully the living radical polymerization of a monomer such as methyl methacrylate, styrene . Ethylbromoacetate as the initiator, and cuprous bromide (CuBr ) / 1,10 of phenanthroline ( C12H8N2.H2O ) , cuprous bromide (CuBr ) / N , N , N ', N \N \) for the catalytic system, the methyl methacrylate atom transfer radical precipitation polymerization and bulk polymerization , atom transfer radical precipitation polymerization of the solvent used is ethanol , the effects of reaction time and monomer concentration , initiator concentration , and on the amount of ascorbic acid polymerization activity , molecular weight and molecular weight distribution of the polymer were characterized by GPC , the results show that the faster rate of MMA polymerization conversion of methyl methacrylate atom transfer radical precipitation polymerization and bulk polymerization to obtain a better achieved, to obtain a narrow molecular weight distribution polymer, with the active polymerization characterized .
