Abstract

In this paper we combined the piezoelectric effect and triboelectric effect of theircharacteristics, proposed a method for taking advantage of these two effects to obtain a novelpiezoelectric and triboelectric nanogenerator (P-TENG) for energy harvesting, and it is alsoenvironmental friendly with low impedance, high output voltage, high power output.Specifically, the pyramid micro structures fabricated atop polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS)surface was employed to enhance the device performance. Further, the piezoelectric bariumtitanate nanoparticles (BT, average particle diameter of30nm) and multiwalled carbonnanotube (MW-CNT, average particle diameter of20nm) were mixed in the film formingprocess. When the N equaled to2:3(The volume ratio of BT to MW-CNT) and V wasequivalent to9%(the volume percentage of BT and MW-CNT mixtures/PDMS matrix), thecomposite film with maximum conductivity and favorable toughness was achieved aftercuring thermally and the conductivity model of it could be fitted as a cubic equation. Undercertain conditions (optimal polarization voltage, time and temperature), the composite filmwas polarized to obtain best electrical performance. Then the treated arch-shape PET/ITOelectrode was attached to the up side of the polarized composite film and an aluminum filmwas placed under the composite film as bottom electrode,in this way, the simple model ofarch-shape P-TENG was obtained(2cm*4cm).With the optimal periodic external force at20Hz, the electrical output of this P-TENG,achieved a peak voltage of22V and current of9μA with a peak current density of1.13μA/cm2, which was six times as high as that of the only triboelectric-based generator and twiceas high as that of the piezoelectric-based generator in our work. This novel nanogenerator wassystematically investigated and also demonstrated as a reliable power source, which can bedirectly used to lighten twenty-eight commercial light-emitting diodes (LEDs) without anyenergy storage unit or rectification circuit under human footfalls. This work demonstrated thepracticability of using P-TENG to harvest mechanical energy, such as footsteps and so on.
