Abstract
Production management information system (PMIS) plays a key role in manufacturing management while some domestic manufacturing companies are operated at a relatively low automation level, depending upon individual experience. With the aim of improving product quality and optimizing whole manufacturing process, a PMIS is constructed for a studied company. The main business of studied company is to produce industrial furnace, which is widely used in petroleum and chemical process.Furnace tube is a key component in furnace. In the studied company, centrifugal casting is used to produce furnace tubes while the internal operating information is collected in hand-written and hardly accessed promptly and efficiently, which makes it difficult for process information analysis, trouble shooting, schedule control, and cost analysis. The constructed system is used to realize the informationization management of production data, centrifugal casting process monitoring, production schedule control, and performance evaluation.The construction of PMIS and results are included as follows:(1) The production management information is collected, sorted and analyzed by this system, including raw material, smelting process, centrifugal casting, quality inspection and machining.(2) The efficiency of inventory management is increased by inventory alarm and remaining amount query of raw material.(3) The content change of elements over time in furnace can be calculated based on the data collected, from which best smelting time can be determined. Then the probability of element loss could be reduced. As a result, the utilization of raw material is improved.(4) The production process could be well managed by production schedule alarm in the system. The machining process includes straightening, boring, and welding and other machining processing units. Each process section takes a different processing time. The cumulative number of unprocessed furnace tubes will increase if one or more process section takes longer than others, then the original production plan will be influenced.(5) Data collected regarding raw material, production and quality inspection can be used for the construction of multivariate statistical model. Then the quality of furnace tubes can be monitored.(6) The cost calculation is achieved by the information of raw material, waste material and remaining material according to each project in this system. The info for each tube can be fully tracked in terms of process steps.After the installation of the PMIS in the studied company, production information in each process section at each management level is collected, organized, and analyzed, which makes it possible to optimize the production schedule, stabilize the product quality, and control the operation cost.
