Abstract


Efficiency is a concentrated embodiment of commercial bank’s competition. The appraisal research of commercial bank’s efficiencies is good for setting the financial regulation for the Chinese bank supervision authority, is good for Chinese commercial banks to judge the efficiency level distance from other bank system and promote their own efficiency level, is good for Chinese commercial bank embranchments’resource allocation optimizing and efficiency promoting, at last it is significant for the stability and development of Chinese financial system.The theory part of this article introduces the feature、classification and system of China’s commercial bank, elaborate the meanings of commercial banks efficiency and some common ways assessing it. The paper uses the Data Envelopment Analysis(DEA), introduces the advantage of DEA method and the typical types of models such as CCR and BCC. The Empirical part is divided into two parts, the first part according to the classification on system, chooses four state-owned commercial banks and ten shareholding commercial banks as decision making units, full analysis the historical data of sample banks in China between 2003 to 2008, measure and analyzed the technology efficiency、pure technology efficiency and scale efficiency of 14 commercial banks in China, the results showed that:the efficiency of Chinese commercial banks is lower, especially banks hold the majority of resources and inefficient state-owned banks, in particular, the state-owned banks that have majority resources is inefficient. In the second part regression Analysis technique is used to analyze the relation between efficiency and relative factors, through the regression model and the efficiency value measured by DEA method, using regression analysis the factors that affecting the banking efficiency. The results show that factors such as assets scale, resource allocation, stability, market concentration, the structure of the proper right have great impact on the efficiency of banking industry in China. Based on the empirical results of this paper, some policy recommendations will be suggested such as to build diversified industrial structure, optimize capital structure, improve capital adequacy ratio, strengthen competition, control the reasonable ratio of deposit and lending.
