An appropriate evaluation index for thermal comfort is advantageous forevaluating the performance of an air conditioning system correctly, and carrying outenergy-saving action reasonably on the premise of ensuring comfort. As acomfortable and energy-efficient air conditioning system, radiant cooling ceilingsystem attracts people’s attention in recent years. This paper focuses on the heattransfer and thermal comfort of radiant cooling ceiling systems, and analyzes theapplicability of PMV index for radiant cooling ceiling systems.In this paper, the heat transfer process of radiant cooling ceiling system s isanalyzed, and the thermal performance of radiant cooling ceiling is te sted in theplatform with radiant cooling ceiling system. The experiment shows that the quantityof radiative heat transfer is nearly half of the total quantity of heat transfer, whichfurther evidences that the radiative heat transfer is the main heat exchange mode ofthe radiant cooling ceiling. Moreover, the thermal comfort of radiant cooling ceilingsystems is investigated with field tests and questionnaires in this paper. Based on theresult of it, the applicability of PMV index for radiant cooling ceiling systems isstudied. It shows that there is a degree of deviation between the actua l humanthermal sensation and the PMV under radiant cooling ceiling systems. Theapplicability of PMV index for radiant cooling ceiling systems is so unsatisfactorythat the index requires modification. By the analysis on the theoretical basis of PMV,thermal balance equation, it is found that the calculation model for radiative heattransfer of PMV is unsuitable for radiant cooling ceiling systems. Based on theabove research results, this paper proposes a four-surface radiative heat transfercalculation model instead of the former model, which is verified by experiment. Theexperiment shows that the four-surface radiative heat transfer calculation model is issuitable for radiant cooling ceiling systems, and the human thermal load calculatedwith the model is more in line with the actual human thermal sensation.
