Part1A8-week feeding trial in a flow-through system was conducted todetermine the effects of dietary dairy-yeast prebiotic levels on growthperformance, feed utilization and body composition of juvenile starryflounder. The basal diet was formulated using fish meal and casein as themain protein source and fish oil as the lipid source respectively. Sixisonitrogenous and isoenergetic diets were formulated by adding0,0.4%,0.8%,1.2%,1.6%and2.00%dairy-yeast prebiotic to the basal diet. Results showed that:1) weight gain ratio (WGR), specific growth rate(SGR), feed intake (FI), protein efficiency rate (PER) and condition factor(CF) increased whereas feed conversion ratio (FCR) decreasedsignificantly (P<0.05) with the supplementation of dairy–yeast prebioticin diets. However, there were no statistical differences in viscerosomaticindex (VSI), hepatosomatic index (HSI)(P>0.05);2)2) The crude lipidcontent in dorsal muscle and liver decreased significantly with theincreasing dietary dairy-yeast prebiotic supplement (P<0.05). The crudeash content in dorsal muscle increased significantly with the increasingdairy-yeast levels. There were no significant differences in the bodycomposition, moisture and crude protein in both dorsal muscle and liver. Inthis experiment, quadratic regression of SGR indicated that the optimallevel of dairy–yeast prebiotic for juvenile starry flounder diet was1.32%.Part2A8-week feeding trial in a flow-through system was conducted todetermine the effects of dietary dairy-yeast prebiotic levels on the activity of digestive enzyme and blood biochemical index of juvenile starryflounder. Results showed that:1) The supplement of dairy–yeast prebiotic in dietshad no significant effects on the activity of protease in hepatopancreas ofjuvenile starry flounder(P>0.05). The activity of protease in gastric andintestinal were significantly increased with the increasing dairy-yeast level(P<0.05). The supplement of dairy-yeast prebiotic in diets had nosignificant effects on the activity of amylase in hepatopancreas, gastric andintestinal(P>0.05).2) The supplement of dairy-yeast prebiotic in diets hadno significant effects on the content of total protein, albumin, globulinand total cholesterol in serum of juvenile starry flounder. The content oftriglyceride was significantly decreased with the increasing dairy-yeastlevel (P<0.05).Part3A8-week feeding trial in a flow-through system was conducted todetermine the effects of dietary dairy-yeast prebiotic levels on antioxidantcapacity and immune capacity of juvenile starry flounder. The basal dietwas formulated using fish meal and casein as the main protein source andfish oil as the lipid source respectively. Six isonitrogenous and isoenergeticdiets were formulated by adding0,0.4%,0.8%,1.2%,1.6%and2.00%dairy-yeast prebiotic to the basal diet. Results showed that:1)Comparedwith the control group, the activity of catalase (CAT) and totalanti-oxidation capability (T-AOC) in serum and liver, and superoxidedismutase(SOD) and anti-superoxide anion activities(T-AOC) in serumwere significantly increased (P<0.05),while the malondialdehyde (MDA)content in serum and liver of fish fed diets supplemented with dairy–yeastprebiotic was significantly decreased (P<0.05).2) The activity of alkaline phosphatase(AKP), lysozyme(LZM), complement(C3) and the content ofnitric oxide(NO) in the serum were significantly improved with thesupplementation of dairy-yeast prebiotic(P<0.05). The supplement ofdairy–yeast prebiotic in diets had no significant effects on acid phosphatase(ACP) and myeloperoxidase (MPO) in the serum of juvenile starryflounder.
