Abstract


In the first year of Qing emperor Jiaqing (1796) Nanxian field flower-drum was born in Wu Zui Xiang, Nanxian of Yiyang City, Hunan Province, which has a history of more than200years. Due to its unique artistic characteristics, distinctive regional feature and profound cultural connotation, the Nanxian field flower-drum dance has become a wonderful treasure of Han Chinese folk dance in the Dongting Lake area. Nanxian field flower-drum dance is not only a form of folk dance, but also a cultural phenomenon, which incorporated the artistic wisdom of local people and the efforts of senior folk artists. Given that the non-language cultural features of Nanxian dance, the local folk artists recorded this living art with their special body language from generation to generation. In recent years, Yiyang municipal government and Party committee, along with the leadership of Nanxian, implemented protective mining for Nanxian field flower-drum dance so as to basically retain its original style; thus, it has become one of the most popular local folk art forms. In2011Nanxian field flower-drum dance was selected into the third batch of national intangible cultural heritage list. This paper is divided into four chapters. Chapter Ⅰ, based on the ecological environment and cultural origins of Nanxian field flower-drum dance basic living conditions. Chapter Ⅱ specifically analyzes the artistic features of Nanxian field flower-drum dance from four aspects which are performance form, musical form, dance aesthetic feature and dance dynamic characteristic, respectively. Chapter Ⅲ illustrates the cultural connotation of Nanxian field flower-drum dance from two perspectives that are inherent cultural core as well as external cultural framework of this dance and gives a deeply look to the functional value and innovative legacy of Nanxian field flower-drum dance; Chapter Ⅳ presents a preliminary understanding of its protection measures as well as an outline for the dance’s heritage status. The author of today’s innovative heritage of County Road DrumDa nce to put forward their own proposals. This paper aims to give an in-depth insight into the Nanxian field flower-drum dance by analyzing its cultural ecology, artistic morphological characteristics and cultural connotation. Moreover, this paper, from interdisciplinary and multicultural view, focus on combining literature data and field investigation so as to objectively review Nanxian field flower-drum’s historical origin, dance feature, folk characteristics and current situation. Eventually, the significance of protection and research of Nanxian flower-drum dance is that it is a supplement to the Hunan Han folk dance and a respect for the folk dance culture. The research process is not restricted to study its own dance features, but also emphasize on its cultural characteristics, which, based on the local folk customs, explored the effect of Hunan folk dance culture and the unique charm of body language in order to finally promote the folk dance culture in Dongting Lake region.
