Abstract


As a director, Jiang Wen demonstrated his talent in film from1993, when his debut In the Heart of Sun was shown. It was apparent that thenarrative strategy and means of expression used by Jiang Wen were not alike hiscotemporary directors’. In addition, the four films of Jiang Wen were made withthe Chinese film system reform, so each of them could reflect the gradualprogress of the reform partly. To be distinctive and influential, Jiang Wenestablished his status of film director. His exploration to one kind of new pattern,innovation and demonstration had a profound effect on film. This article focusedon the specific methods of Jiang’s films, analyzed its style, features and thecause of formation in the perspective of the cultural criticism, to clarify the JiangWen’s status and significance of the oedigree of mainland China film directors.
