Copperplate etching is originated from Europe, it belongs to one of intaglios classified by printing modes and it has a long history of development. Intaglio printing technology is originated from Europe in fifteenth century. Early copperplate etching belongs to traditional process, such as gold and silver handicraft industry. Copperplate at this time is only as a kind of tool for cultural diffusion. With development of science and technology, copperplate etching is gradually evolved as a kind of relatively independent language of art. China’s creative copperplate etching was germinated in seventy’s or eighty’s of last century, with continuous economic development, it led art to be flourishing as never before. Through constant accepting foreign advanced technology, techniques of copperplate etching is constantly regulated and perfected from copperplate etching’s plate to plate making and finally to printing, and then initiate artists’analysis and studies for language of art of copperplate etching. However, at present, data of studies related to techniques and authorizing language for copperplate etching are less and artists and theorists have not systematically given written exposition for how techniques and authorizing language are harmoniously used.This text will expound characteristics of authorizing language of copperplate etching respectively from four parts. Firstly, it is general situation of development for art of copperplate etching at home and abroad; Secondly, mode of techniques for copperplate etching; Thirdly, it is to deeply discuss authorizing language of copperplate etching. As an independent type of plate, its artistry is absolutely unique. Such unique artistry is its primary cause for indulging in elaborating by creators from fifteenth century until now. For embryonic form of development of domestic copperplate etching, a series of doubts including how to better use characteristics of language for copperplate etching and how to better use visual feast brought by techniques of copperplate etching, etc during specific creative practice of copperplate etching by contemporary artists become questions which must be considered by artists during their creation for copperplate etching. No longer be proud of blindly using techniques of copperplate etching to represent characteristics of language for other types of plate, while profoundly rethink self creative process and deeply excavate particularity and artistry for copperplate etching, this is also the part especially stressed and expounded by this text; Finally, combined with my own creative practices and creative experiences during my postgraduate stage, comprehensively elaborate problems encountered in this text mentioned creations and their corresponding solutions. They are expounded mainly from two aspects. Firstly, especially analyze representing characteristics for authorizing language of copperplate etching, its peculiar imprint, plate material and plate-making mode have created unique form of language; Secondly, in terms of description of building relationship between techniques of copperplate etching and authorizing language, two aspects are mutually affected, it is not singly pursuing a certain mode; Finally, combine techniques and creation in specific work for specific studies.This text tries to prove that:During creation of copperplate etching, its techniques and language of art present role of mutual assistance, picture image revealed by creation techniques can help artist burst inspiration of creation, at the same time, also enables layout form to be more diversified; On the contrary, mode of language for its artistry of creation is also controlling authorizing language’s specific implementation. Among two aspects, one falls, another rises. Its significance is that, comprehensive analysis for techniques and authorizing language of copperplate etching is beneficial to enrich picture representation effect for copperplate etching and find out inherent law of interaction each other between techniques and authorizing language, simultaneously, provide reference basis for later researchers and provide theoretical source materials for later creations.
