Objective:In daily life, people monitor their own behaviors, make the right choices, and regulate their behaviors on the basis of internal and external feedback information, namely decision-making. Appropriate decision-making rely on the effective feedback evaluation process and subsequent adaptive behavior. Many studies used the brain electrophysiological level window into the feedback evaluation processing, such as FRN (feedback-related negativity, which is related to external feedback). Many source localization studies have suggested that generator for FRN is close to the anterior cingulate cortex (ACC).Adolescence is the period of existing frequent risky behaviors, adolescents are more prone to all kinds of impulsive, aggressive and risky behaviors, which are especially common during conduct disorder (CD) adolescents. In recent years, some researchers reported those risky behaviors are related to immature or abnormal decision making, furthermore, inappropriate decision making is associated with abnormalities of FRN. That to say, the feedback processing (the external feedback processing related to FRN) of CD adolescents may be defective. This research aimed at discussing whether the CD adolescents’feedback processing is abnormal, and whether FRN is associated with externalizing behaviors, such as impulsivity, aggression risk and so on.Methods:Based on the previous studies, a total of29outpatients with CD adolescents (6females) and25healthy control subjects (6females) matched on age and sex were recruited from the Second Xiangya Hospital of Central South University and middle schools of Changsha separately. We used event-related potential technique to figure out the differences between CD adolescents and healthy control subjects in amplitude and latency of FRN, during single outcome gambling (SOG) task. At last we compared the impulsive, aggressive and risky level of the two groups and discussed the external feedback processing of CD adolescents. Results:Compared to controls, CD adolescents had higher scores in BIS total scores [t=-4.64, p<0.05], higher AHRBI-AV scores [t=-6.37, p<0.05] and greater risky choice ratio [t=-2.97, p<0.05]. A mixed-model ANOVA was used to analysis the amplitude of FRN. Main effects for group [F(1,52)=9.83,p<0.05, ηp2=0.159], electrode [F(1.26,65.71)=77.60, p<0.05,ηP2=0.599], valence [F(1,52)=16.45, p<0.05, ηp2=0.240] and magnitude [F(1,52)=13.74, p<0.05, ηp2=0.209] were significant. There was a significant interaction between electrode and magnitude [F(1.17,61.04)=6.36, p<0.05, ηp2=0.109]. A mixed-model ANOVA was used to analysis the latency of FRN. The main effect of electrode [F(1.65,85.55)=6.47,p<0.05, ηp2=0.111] was significant, but there was no significant main effect of group [F(1,52)=0.69, p>0.05, ηp2=0.013], valence [F(1,52)=1.80,p>0.05, ηp2=0.034] and magnitude [F(1,52)=1.80, p>0.05, ηp2=0.033]. Correlation analyses showed FRN amplitude negatively correlated with the nonplanned impulsiveness score(r=-0.28, p<0.05), total score of the BIS-11(r=-0.27,p<0.05) and the score of aggression and violence subscale of AHRBA(r=-0.34, p<0.05), but not associated with the other scores (ps>0.05).Conclusions:We found that CD adolescents have higher levels in impulsivity, aggression and risk than controls. CD adolescents showed abnormality of the external feedback evaluation processing, and need more neural activity to achieve similar feedback evaluation process as controls. FRN amplitude negatively correlated with the impulsiveness and aggression.
