The leading academic discipline in the first place in the higher education system,which is an important base for scientific research, technological innovation and economicsocial. The leading academic discipline can improve the quality of higher education andenhance the core competitiveness of the University and influence of academic. And it issignificant in promoting the economic and social development. This paper analysed theactuality of the leading academic discipline project in the middle of china based on thebackground of “the Rise of Central China”. This paper discusses the layout of quantityand category in colleges in the central region and brings forward the problems andcorresponding countermeasure of the leading academic discipline project.In the macro perspective, this paper analyzes the achievements of the leadingacademic discipline in the middle of china. And exemplified the achievements of theleading academic discipline in the college from technological innovation, personneltraining, teaching and research conditions, and the number of the leading academicdiscipline. From the microscopic point of view, the author has selected the leadingacademic discipline of "211Project" in Henan and Hubei provinces as the representativeto exemplify the achievements of the leading academic discipline in the Central Region.By the way of this opportunity, the colleges of"211Project" in two peovinces through aseries of efforts made significant achievements in terms of research capacity, personnel,social services. As the central region microcosm, the leading academic disciplineexemplified the development in the Central Region. The results indicate that certain achievements have been made in the leadingacademic discipline in the Central Region. But on the national point of view, the leadingacademic discipline in the Central Region still exist some problems, such as the overallnumber of national key disciplines less structure and layout is not reasonable, facultydevelopment lag and so on. But the policy factors and economic factors are the mainfactor to affect the development of the leading academic discipline.Strengthening Academic Discipline in the Central Region should start fromimproving its policies and systems development environment,and fight for the support ofnational policy; the colleges in different provinces should proceed from the actualsituation, and develop a series of system and measures to strengthen cooperation andexchanges between the Central Universities; at the same time,the colleges shouldstrengthen intra-disciplinary construction and strengthening from the talent, innovativeresearch direction and the dominant disciplines.The innovation of this paper is to analyze the development of the central region ofkey disciplines in universities on the basis of the research of other scholars, in the contextof the "Rise of Central China", by comparative analysis of the construction of keydisciplines in universities ideas to sort out the central region of the focus of the centralregion and the discipline construction development proposals,"Rise of Central China"strategy which will achieve the development of higher education in Central andconstruction of key disciplines of great significance.
