With the rapid development of air transportation, air cargo already became anun-replaceable transport link in logistics industry. Since2001,China Southern started todevelop the freight transport information system which belong to itself and launched it2003. Till today, Tangyi system has been used for seven years. During this time, itbasically satisfied the needs of manifest information management in cargo handlingprocess in different terminals. However, this system can not track the information ofhow staffs handle inbound and outbound cargo between different links. When there isimportant cargo lost and miss sending happened, it is hard to find the responsibleperson.To change the management problem which existed in current cargo transportprocess, under the present air cargo management system, the discussion group hasdeveloped “Barcode aviation logistics information management system”. The systemuse the encoding by25code,and utilizes Browser/Server architecture and select SQLServer2000as the back-end database. Its functions includes the entire cargo processmonitoring, real-time information on cargo transport, freight movement flow of dataand statistics functions. Cargo barcode system is required to operate in an open systemto achieve the gold of software and technical advanced, function completed, datasharing, easy to use, lower maintain fee, and finally for the China Southern to contributeto the development of national economic as a state-owned key enterprises.Nowadays, cargo barcode system already successfully tested in China Southern’scargo system. The result shows that it is designed logically, function completed and easyto use. It improved the technique and efficiency of cargo operation management,advanced the air cargo system’s digitalization, modernization, upgraded ChinaSouthern’s ability of cargo management, last but not least, it has a positive effect onChina Southern’s service and marketing ability.
