Abstract


The cover is the first impression of the magazine, which causing huge visual impact almost like the hypocenter to the readers. The front cover columns of Southern People Weekly insist on reporting ideas that combines both the content and forms, which are indispensable. Readers love Southern People Weekly because it applies varieties way, such as portraits、group portrait、comics、abstract pictures to manifest the context, and designs cover to match the theme. What’s more, its reports have its own depth and range.Study chooses the front cover column of Southern People Weekly as the research objects which are the explorer of the character class magazine in china. Choosing210samples of the front cover column from2007to2011, using the textual analysis、data statistics and comparative study as research method, and selecting a few cases of cover with typical features as the focus of study. By comparative analysis among cover column of Southern People Weekly, China Newsweek, and Life week, it is found that the cover column of Southern People Weekly has a unique report feature which bring up a new thinking for other weekly to learn.On the subject selection, featured by its diversified selection of people, characteristically choice of subject, stability choice of the cover, Southern People Weekly takes a different way by using people as the entry point of reports, focusing on the unique characters in people so that their qualities were restored. In this way, Southern People Weekly highlights its special perspective on emphasizing human spirits. On the context of the cover column, Southern People Weekly narrates story in third person or first person to show its influence, meanwhile, reports by narration, conversation and comment to reflect its professionism, usesing many techniques of expression to make the report happy to read.with the arrival of information explosive era and the increasing competition in media market, media including Southern People Weekly is now facing the difficulties such as figures homogenization, report patterned and topic homogenization and so on, all of which make it difficult to maintain its social and market influence. So how to innovate selection of characters and depth of themes has now become urgent problem to solve. To this, the author favors "Iceberg analysis " and " The principle of Gestalt Psychology " to dig the unique perspective to show the value of characters and highlight visual effect, meanwhile, grasp reader’s phycological feeling to reach the best and durable media effect.
