With the arrival of the era of knowledge economy, more and more senior managers have realized the importance of knowledge for firms to develop new products, enhance innovation capability and building sustainable competitive advantage. New product development activities are the main driving force of innovation, and new product development performance is affected by the knowledge and information which firms can obtain. In the competitive business environment, new product development activities as a business process is an important part to play increasingly important role, and its success or failure directly determines corporate profits, market share, seize and maintain a competitive advantage and other strategic objectives. However, few previous studies from the perspective of external knowledge sources investigated enterprise activities and new product development performance. This paper focuses on investigating the relationship between corporate external knowledge sources, organizational learning and new product development performance. Firstly, on the basis of searching a large number of existing research data, this paper conducts a systematic combing to related concepts, and then proposes the overall research model and research ideas. Secondly, this paper establishes the research model through theoretical analysis, and tests the effect of external sources of knowledge on new product development performance, and explores the mechanism of organizational learning mode mediating this relationship. Finally, the following conclusions draw by an empirical study of questionnaire. The external knowledge sources of new product development project team (includes knowledge sources of market, institutional knowledge sources, other sources of knowledge and standard class source of knowledge) has significantly improved effect on new product development performance. Among them, the market class source of knowledge has a significant positive impact on exploratory learning, and also has a significant positive impact on the exploitative learning; institutional class source of knowledge has a significant positive impact on both exploratory learning, and exploitative learning; Other types of sources of knowledge also has a significant positive impact on both exploratory learning, and exploitative learning; standard class source of knowledge has a significant positive impact on both exploratory learning and exploitative learning.Organizational learning mediating the relationship between external knowledge sources and new product development performance, but the mechanisms is different. Exploratory learning is essential in the new product development process, this is due to exploratory learning pursuit innovation and actively take risks, help firms to build sustainable competitive advantage. The exploitative learning on new product development are equally important, this learning model focuses on the improvement of existing products and processes, emphasizing the current performance improvement, the effect of exploitative learning on long-term performance is limited..
