Abstract


CPA Information Technology is playing an ever increasingly important role in our daily life, as well as in the operation of an accounting firm. How to maximize most output from IT advancement in the development of accounting firm, how to improve the management level and ensure our quality standard, and how to reengineer the process flow so that our service value can be optimized are all major issues lying ahead of large accounting firms. Information Technology has been the driver to improve and maintain their core competence.The construction of Information Technology system in a large accounting firm is not an easy thing. Facts show that, without a clear development vision, or without a reasonable strategic plan, a construction of IT can be risky, low benefits and destructive. It can be an isolated island if no high level of share-base purpose can be achieved. IT of this kind can serve the development of an accounting firm no better but a constraint. The following paper gives details of how SWOT analysis used in the process of IT development strategies with input of accounting firm practice. Firstly we had overall study of opportunities and challenges the firm is facing from outside, and advantages and problems the internal IT construction is having through the method of SWOT. The result would be served as our decision base and startup for our next step. Secondly, SST(Strategy Set Transformation) and CFS (Critical Factors of Success) are used to determine the need in the development of IT strategy for M firm. Then, we used empirical study to draft out a series of plans, structures, steps and core functions of IT organization. Finally, we worked out the process flow of IT construction, including implementation of key functions, guidelines for service provider selection process, and process for project management and risk management in the combination of actual practice of M Firm.The strategy development and process illustrated in the paper can serve as a guidance in the construction of IT system in accounting firms and a good example for enterprises in other industries to develop their own IT structure.
