Abstract


China’s modern coal-iron industrial site of Benxi Lake is an epitome of thedevelopment of Chinese modern coal-iron industry. The No.1and No.2blast furnace ofNo.1Iron Works of Benxi Steel&Iron Co, built in1915and1917respectively, are theoldest ones existing in Asia, which created the history of ironmaking by using modernblast furnace in Northeast China, and was unique at that time nationally. Benxi Lakemodern coal-iron industry is a core component of the coal-iron industry development inthe region of Benxi, Liaoning, Northeast China and even the whole country, which hasgreat significance in the history of China’s industrial development. Modern coal-ironindustrial site of Benxi Lake has the high culture value and economic value, whichrecords the development course of Benxi coal-iron industry. Protecting the site anddeveloping industrial site tourism will play an important role in further promotingrevitalization of the old industrial base in Benxi, Liaoning and Northeast China andexploring urban development. The paper aims at offering advice and suggestions andlaying a theoretical foundation for protection and utilization of the Benxi industrial siteby the study on the protective tourism development of industrial site.Through the study on protective tourism development of modern coal-iron industrialsite of Benxi Lake, the paper analyzes the historical formation, practical distribution anddistinctive character of the industrial site as mining heritage and points out impacts ofmining heritage on the city development should be considered while evaluating itstourism value. It establishes the value evaluation index system of mining heritage by theuses of the Delphi method and analytic hierarchy process and the mathematical model ofevaluating tourism value of mining heritage, taking modern coal-iron industrial site ofBenxi Lake as an example of practical application. Through the introduction of theconsumer preference variation and the method of weight comparison, the paperdifferentiates between the value of mining heritage and its tourism value. The paperaddresses that the protective tourism development of China’s modern coal-iron industrialsite of Benxi Lake should be based on the principles of entirety, focus, features andsustainable development to be made orderly in the prerequisite of the entirety accordingto different kinds and properties. The exploration model is under the idea of the ecologically livable city development, paying attention to the entirety protection andintegration, building urban landscape belt. Regarding to the concrete application ofstrategies, the local government should play a leading role, put the industrial sitedevelopment into the urban planning of Benxi city, set up the entirety industrial heritageprotection consciousness, deeply excavate the cultural connotations of industry heritagetourism, develop tour routes of regional mining heritage and commercialize operationwith protection as principle and premise.
