Abstract


Polarization is one of the most important characteristics of the scattering light, but the scalar radiative transfer equation does not include the polarization information, so it is not accurate. There are wide applications of the polarization information in the fields of the atmospheric optics, oceanic optics, remote sensing, and so on. People can remote sense the component of the atmosphere, improve the identification of the underwater objects, detect the biologic pathological changed structure, achieve the spatial remote sensing and observe of the earth’s surface through the different polarization states of the medium’s scattering and objects’reflection. It is made great effect upon the atmospheric and oceanic science, biologic physic, infrared sensing and identification of military objects, and so on.The vector radiative transfer theory is the theoretical basis of the spatial remote sensing, which depends on the vector radiative transfer equation with four Stokes parameters. By comparison with the scalar radiative transfer equation, vector radiative transfer equation combines the polarization message. In this article we solve the vector radiative transfer equation using the discrete ordinates method, and compare the solution with that given in other literature. Then, through changing the radiative characters for two different radiative transferring models, we analyze the effects of polarization on numerical accuracy of radiative transfer when the polarization message is omitted, show the situations where we should not ignore the polarization message for a high precision computation. We hope that polarization could be paid more attention when we calculate problems about radiative transfer.The radiative entropy intensity is a function of a radiative intensity, so it is not accurate when we ignore the polarization message for calculating the radiative entropy intensity. In this article, we analyze and calculate the polarized radiative entropy intensity and entropy generation. For the Rayleigh and Mie scattering particles, we research the scattering light’s polarization degree, the spectral radiative entropy intensity and the entropy generation when an incident light with different polarization degree passes thought single particle scattering.
