Abstract

The in-core power distribution contains plenty of information in the core. Because the power distribution of all the parts of the core can not be directly measured when the reactor is operating, it is necessary to obtain the in-core power distribution by other way. One of the methods is to reconstruct the in-core power distribution from the detectors readings. For this purpose, the method of reconstructing the in-core power distribution from ex-core detectors readings is discussed. The key of this method is to find the response matrix, which is the relation between in-core power distribution and ex-core detectors readings.By modeling a bench mark of BNL and Qinshan project, the response matrix under single power level without control rod and different power level with control rods inserted are respectively fitted by least square method. At last, the result is validated. In the modeling of bench mark of BNL, the influence of different models of the core on the ex-core detectors readings is considered. The results show that the dominating contribution to ex-core detectors readings comes from the peripheral assemblies. Based on the ex-core detectors readings simulated by MCNP, the response matrix under single power level without control rod is fitted by least square method. At last; the result is validated wiht the same data. The ex-core detectors readings in different power level with control rods inserted are simulated by modeling Qinshan project. The response matrix is fitted by least square method. The result is validated by comparing the reconstructed power distribution with the actual power distribution. The results show that the relative errors of the cells which the bottom of control rod is in are very big. The relative errors of other cells are small.
