Abstract


Music New Curriculum Reform having been carried out has had a fundamental impact on music education in ordinary schools in China since this century. Music education in primary and secondary schools has made remarkable achievements during the nine years. However, there are some problems in the reform. We can see one of the urgent problems needing to be solved is that the development of the new curriculum reform and experiment in music is disequilibrium, which is extremely detrimental to the overall development in China. Based on Beibu Gulf coastal areas in the south of Guangxi and whose education is thin and low, music new curriculum reform makes relatively slow progress in this area. As teachers here, it is our duty to understand the current situations of music education in primary and secondary schools and study its development strategies, which is also conducive to promoting the improvement and addressing the problems of unbalanced development.By stratified survey (extracted seven schools each in the three coastal cities, survey covering cities, counties, towns and villages), questionnaire, discussions, interviews, observation records and other methods, on the basic conditions for carrying out music education and curriculum, the thesis develops its study and description on current situations of music education in the primary and secondary schools in Beibu Gulf coastal areas and is composed of three chapters.Chapter 1 Survey on the current situations of music education in primary and secondary schools in Guangxi Beibu Gulf coastal areas. This chapter introduces research objects, methods and implementation approach.Chapter 2 Analysis on the current situations of music education in primary and secondary schools in Guangxi Beibu Gulf coastal areas. This chapter analyses the main problems in music education: Basic conditions—progressively weakening trend on the configuration of a full-time music teacher, the lack of dedicated music classrooms and equipments, instable music lesson offered in rural schools, and other issues; curriculum situations—the superficial basic idea of teachers , the narrow teaching content, the lack of comprehensive practical abilities, single teaching methods, inadequate teaching evaluation, the gaps between the leaders’ knowledge and disciplines construction requirement, and other issues.Chapter 3 Development strategies of music education in primary and secondary schools in Guangxi Beibu Gulf coastal areas. This chapter suggests to improve and enhance foundation conditions in primary and secondary music education from three aspects, that is the education administration departments, schools, local colleges and universities. Combining the requirement in "standard", it requires teachers to improve their own level of education and teaching from their teaching ideas, teaching content, teaching methods, instructional design, teaching evaluation, and other aspects.
