Abstract


With the rapid development of communication technology, Internet technology, and information terminal technology, information technology is showing a new trend. Telecommunications industry and the media, entertainment, finance, e-commerce and other industries continued integration make the telecommunications companies to promote cooperative R&D more and more extensive, and many kinds of organizational modes are used in R&D cooperation. However, how to select cooperative R&D organizational modes is the first question during the project management. Combing with the technical factors of telecommunication industry, this article will give the suitable cooperative R&D organizational modes and be valued for telecommunication industry.There are many factors affect the selection of organizational modes in cooperative R&D of telecommunication industry. The most important factor is the technical factors, because cooperative R&D due to technical factors are the motivation, purpose, cooperative R&D has always been the factors surrounding the technology. This article focuses on technical factors of the telecommunication industry which affect the cooperative R&D organizational modes selection, analyzes the logical relationship between the critical technical factors and the cooperative R&D organizational modes, and try to build the selection model of telecommunication industry cooperative R&D organizational modes according to the actual sample data from Chinese listed companies.The cooperative R&D organizational mode can be divided into two types according to the degree of integration. One is Joint Venture Mode, another one is Contract-based R&D cooperation mode. The Contract-based R&D organizational mode is more and more popular in the telecommunication industry, because it has many advantages of the organizational flexibility, dynamic and strong, low cost, the risk is small. According to the technical characteristics and development trends of the telecommunication industry, the key technical factors which affect the mode selection of cooperative R&D in telecommunication industry are: the degree of modularity, product characteristics, the technical level, technology flows and the degree of technical innovation. The paper discusses the possible technical factors, which will effect the selection of the modes, analyzes the technical factors individually, and uses LOGIT model to analyze the optimized mode for telecommunication industry. There are totally 313 examples which come from 38 listed companies.Based on the conclusion from LOGIT analysis, the suitable evaluation mode is given for telecommunication industry, meanwhile, the marked influence factors are listed which includes the degree of modularity, product characteristics, technology flows and the degree of technical innovation. However, the study is limited to communication companies listed in China. Thus, the authors make the expectations for the research on the mode selection of R&D cooperation for small and medium enterprise. The study of the content is limited to equity-based and contract-based organizational model, virtual R&D and CEEUSRO model will be discussed in the further study.
