Abstract


As the researches on the relationship between language and culture deepen steadily, "the phenomenon of cultural vacancy" becomes an important branch of researches on language and culture. Factors of nation, language and culture are closely interrelated with each other. The phenomenon of vacancy was perceived and revealed by people during the communication and contrast of different languages and cultures. It fully reflects the cultural differences between different nations and represents peculiar character of nation culture.Vacancy is a category of language. It is a kind of language phenomenon which appears no matter in the process of inter-language, intercultural communications, or in single language circumstance. The phenomenon of vacancy which emerges on the basis of differences of languages and cultures refers to that the phenomenon of language and culture of a nation doesn’t exist in that of another nation. From the 1970s, the researches on culture vacancy have been focused by many scholars from home and abroad. As each subject deepens, the researches on culture vacancy get a further and thorough development, too.The thesis is divided into five parts. Chapter one is the general introduction in which the background and significance of the study are introduced. Words vacancy, which refers to that some objects and phenomena in this language cannot be found equivalence or corresponding expressions in another language, has its characters of unintelligibility, non-habituation, strangeness and misunderstanding. Chapter two reviews and summarizes the fruits of researches from home and abroad on words vacancy in translation, inter-culture, foreign language teaching and Chinese teaching as a second language etc. Chapter three analyzes the two main reasons for words vacancy in Chinese and Russian:one is language factor, the other is culture factor. Chapter four makes classified analyses of words vacancy in Chinese and Russian which is divided into full vacancy and semi-vacancy. According to its corresponding meaning, semi-vacancy is divided into culture difference, culture conflict and culture deficiency. Chapter five carries out an analysis on phenomenon of words vacancy using communications research model, and puts forwards relevant suggestions and purposeful strategies for improving language teaching in view of communications.The study on words vacancy in Russian and Chinese in this thesis aims at serving Chinese teaching as a second language in Russia, further improving the words teaching theory level of Chinese teachers in Russia and making it more scientific and more efficient in respects of teaching and guidance.
