Abstract

It is very difficult to use traditional water treatment method to deal with concentrated salt organic wastewater and offen has poor effect. It becomes one of the water treatment industry problems.Membrane distillation(MD) is a new type of membrane separation technology which has the features of strong corrostion resistance,anti-pollution,better separation efficiency, low operating temperature and can make ues of low temperature heat source. In this paper, vacuum membrane distillation was tried to deal with concentrated salt organic wastewater to explore its feasibility. In this paper, concentrated salt organic wastewater was as a main research object and after dealed with flocculation sedimentation, microfiltration and macroporoporous adsorption resin, hardness,COD and turbidity values of the liquid were obviously lower.Especially ,high turbidity that would easy to pollute membrane pore and the removal effect of non-polar compounds was very visible. In this study,self-made cross-flow hollow fiber membrane modules carried out by vacuum membrane distillation to treat waste water.Firstly, system experimental characteristics of MD process which used pure water as liquid were investigated. The operation focused on a single operation factor on vacuum membrane distillation process to understand membrane, membrane modules and the laws that parameters under pure water conditions impacted the membrane flux, system stability. On this base waste water treated by batch vacuum membrane distillation experiments was studied. And variation regularity of liquid salinity, turbidity, hardness, COD values was studied in the waste water treatment process and their impact on membrane flux and desalination rate, COD removal rate were also researched to explore the feasibility.Research studies had shown that liquid salinity, organic content, turbidity, hardness had important influence on membrane flux and were main reason of membrane fouling.Membrane flux with the increasing of operating time and concentration decreased significantly. In wastewater concentration by MD process,a large number of suspended solids and particles were yielded. In order to reduce membrane pollution used on-line filter method which had a good results. In continuous concenteated MD process didn’t appear the phenomenon that COD and hardness values of waste water elevated with the increased salinity. When the liquid salinity reached to about 280‰,crystallization that mainly contained sodium cholride was found as a obvious phenomenon. In the MD process, membrane fouling was the important reason that caused the descent of membrane flux and deterioration of freshwater quality. And solids sediment in the surface membrane caused the most serious pollution.Solid deposition occurred not only in the membrane outer surface, but also occurred in the membrane inner suiface and membrane channel pore. The sediment on membrane outer surfance was mainly sodium chloride salt while the inner surface sedimemts was mainly calcium sulfate. Many times repeated cleaning experiments in MD process showed that the average membrane flux recovery rate was more than 80% up to 97%,and the membrane cleaning process still needed to be further optimized. The waste water was concentrated more than tenfold in MD process, the retention rate of salt and COD reached more than 99.5%.It was feasible to use vacuum membrane distillation to deal with specific concentrated salt organic wastewater.
