Abstract

Polyester (PET) is the synthetic fiber which has the largest production. At present the production of PET account for 60% of all the synthetic fiber.A chemical method was described based on the use ofβ-cyclodextrins(β-CD) and polycarboxylic acid(PC As) as finishing chemicals for the modification of polyester fibers (PET). It was observed that the reaction between these reactants yielded a cross-linked polymer, by formation of ester functions betweenβ-CD and PC As. This polymer permanently coated the PET fibers. The chemical structure of the polymer consisted ofβ-CD moieties and unreacted carboxylate groups. Theses groups resulted from the partial reaction of PC A and yielded ion exchange property to the fibers. The effects of factors such as concentration ofβ-CD, CA and sodium hypophosphite, cured time and temperature on the finished fabric were discussed as well. Optimum finishing process was determined with orthogonal tests. The results showed that the best result could be achieved under the follow condition:β-CD 100g/L, PCA 100g/L, sodium hypophosphite 30g/L, cured at 180℃for 20 min.Static adsorption properties of IEF in solution for Cu2+ and Ni2+ were studied. The effects of pH value, temperature, initial ion concentrations and weight gain of fabrics were discussed. Desorption efficiency, regenerative and reuse capacity of IEF were also assessed for three successive adsorption-desorption cycles. The adsorption isotherms of IEF for Cu2+ and Ni2+ were determined and respectively simulated by Langmuir and Freundlich equation. Kinetics and thermodynamics of adsorption for ions were studied and Values ofΔH,ΔG,ΔS and Second Order Reaction Rate constant were calculated.
