Objective: To investigate the video the electroencephalogram (VEEG) to check the value of early diagnosis of preterm children with periventricular leukomalacia (PVL) . METHODS: From January 2008 to January 2009 , for various reasons, hypoxia admitted to the First Affiliated Hospital of Xinjiang Medical NICU children with suspected PVL , diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (DWI) technology as a diagnostic gold standard The children were divided into PVL group ( 12 cases ) and non- PVL group ( 43 cases ) . The video EEG preterm children with periventricular white matter , analysis of video EEG in the diagnosis of premature children PVL sensitivity , specificity , positive predictive value , negative predictive value ; diagnosis using Kappa analysis to calculate the two inspection methods consistency of brain damage in premature children . Compared with the gold standard to evaluate the value of early diagnosis of video-EEG PVL children . Results: The sensitivity of diagnostic tests for the 83% , specificity of 93% , a diagnosis consistent results with DWI rate ( the same rate ) of 91% , there is a the PVL group of video-EEG abnormal results were statistically compared with non- PVL group differences. Conclusion: video-EEG can be used as a preliminary screening of of suspected PVL children with EEG physiological indicators .
