Abstract


Lean management methods have been widely used by Chinese enterprises, especially manufacturing businesses. In contrast, the Six Sigma management as an significant philosophy is not widespread in Chinese state-owned enterprises. And RCM (reliability-centered maintenance management) is adopted currently within the most world’s maintenance business as an advanced and scientific management method. Shanghai Shentong Metro Group, as a mass traffic and transport company, would like to effectively combine the RCM and Lean Six Sigma management to establish an integrated management system. That will be a huge business success if they could perform well. This is not simply a reference to the management of technical methods, but the maintenance business for a new management decision-making model.The purpose of this paper was to present a method for rolling stock’s maintenance strategy selection that increases train availability rate and customer satisfaction and corporate profits. The methodology adopts Lean Six Sigma DMAIC quality analysis and RCM (reliability-centered maintenance management) from the Shanghai Shentong Metro Group’s vehicle maintenance department for this evaluation to decide the train availability rate. The empirical result indicates the Lean Six Sigma methodology combined with RCM should be an effectively method to resolve the problems of the customer satisfaction and operation cost control in the maintenance business if maintenance company can continue to accumulate a large number of production process equipment reliability data in the long term.
