Abstract

Network Smart Card is the smart card that can communicate with host computers or remote computers via standard Internet protocols. The complicated middleware necessary in traditional systems can be thrown away when a NSC with internal TCP/IP protocol support is available. In this way, the security can be enhanced and the response time can be speeded up, while the cost is reduced. Nevertheless, the hardware resource in smart card is pretty limited and the communication speed over the ISO7816 interface is very slow. Therefore, how to solve the above problems is the main concern. An EEM-based NSC model (EEM-NSC) is designed by referring to existing smart card models and embedded systems. With the addition of TCP/IP and SSL/TLS protocol stacks, this model allows the EEM-NSC to act as an independent network node in data exchanging between computers in distance. With a USB-EEM as its interface, the Data Transfer Rate (DTR) of an EEM-NSC can be improved obviously. The achievements of this dissertation are depicted as following. (1) The idea of EEM-NSC and its internal mechanism are brought out by reviewing traditional smart card model and embedded system. (2) A new chained-buffer based TCP/IP stack is presented by optimizing and simplifying standard TCP/IP protocol. As for the buffer area which is frequently used, a special design is given to reduce its memory consumption. (3) A Shared-buffer SSL/TLS stacks is designed through reconfiguring and optimizing traditional protocol stacks. In this way, the Average Memory Copy operation is decreased, and the efficiency is improved dramatically (4) A secure online transaction model based on EEM-NSC is designed to demonstrate the advantage of the EEM-NSC, especially in convenience and safety.
