Abstract


Since the 1980’s, the phenomenon of intra-industry trade of services among developed countries has developed quickly. China and Australia are important partners in services trade and the intra-industry trade is obvious, so this paper conducted an empirical research on the Sino-Australian service industry and intro-industry trade and the affective factors.Firstly, the paper summarized the related literatures of service intro-industry trade. Then the paper analyzed the mechanism of service intro-industry trade in order to lay a theoretical foundation for the research. After that, the paper conducted research on the background of Sino-Australian service intro-industry trade from the perspectives of the overall service industry development and trade and producer service and consumer service trade between the two countries. Based on the background research, the paper calculated both the intro-industry trade index and the marginal intra-industry trade index to have a quantitative research on the level of Sino-Australian service intro-industry trade. Finally, the paper conducted empirical research on affection of the factors of difference in individual income levels、differences in the size of the services sector、tightness of trade in goods、differences in the service trade openness and the Australia direct investment to China to the major service trade items of transportation service, non-education related travel service and other business services trades.According to the research, the following conclusions can be drawn: the service intro-industry trade is a important part of Sino-Australia service trade, 6 out of 9 services traded industries are intro-industry trades; the Sino-Australia education related travel service trade has the most negative impact on the overall Sino-Australia service intro-industry trade level, which consisted of 56% of the total service trade with G-L index of 0.06; the service intro-industry levels in different service items are quite different, the G-L index of non-education related travel service is 0.96, however, the G-L index of construction service is only 0.00; The G-L index of computer and information, Royalties and license fees, personal, cultural and recreational services are instable; The MIIT index of non-education related travel service is 0.66, the intro-industry level showed an upward trend, the MIIT indexes of other Sino-Australia services are below 0.50, the intra-industry trade levels showed downward trends; Sino-Australia differences in income is the main affective factor of the non-education related travel service’s intro-industry level, the correlation degree is 0.7163; Sino-Australia differences in income is the main affective factor of the transportation service’s intro-industry level, the correlation degree is 0.9938; Sino-Australia differences in the size of the service sector is the main affective factor of the other business service’s intro-industry level, the correlation degree is 0.9847. Based on the research, the paper provides suggestion from China prospective: firstly, we should emphasize the importance of service intro-industry of Sino-Australia service trade; Secondly, we should cultivate more on the services industries which has the potential to be competitive; Thirdly, we should put more effort on the education service development to enhance the competitiveness; Fourthly, we should focus on the increase of individual income and the scale of other business service to improve the overall Sino-Australia service intro-industry level.
