Abstract

This work mainly involved the investigation of the adsorption of thiophene on activated clay, active carbon and HY-Al2O3 adsorbent. With Cu2+, Zn2+, Fe3+, Ag+, Ce3+, Cu+ to modify the adsorbent and picked out the best active component and the optimal load, determine the optimal preparation process condition to compare their removal ability of thiophene. It is found that activated carbon has large specific surface area and developed microporous structure. The sulfur capacity of the activated carbon that loaded 0.5wt.%Pt and 6 wt.% Ag was 7.47mgS/g. The adsorption mechanisms of the activated carbon loaded silver ion were typical microporous physical adsorption andπ-complexation. It demonstrated a high sulfur capacity of 10.04 mg sulfur/g sorbent when HY/Al2O3 mass ratio was 3, loaded 12% cuprous, calcined at 550℃and testing at ambient temperature. On the basis of the combined techniques of in situ IR spectroscopy and TPD, the adsorption of thiophene on Cu(Ⅰ)/HY-Al2O3 via multilayer intermolecular force,π-complexation and S-M (σ) bond. The total weak L acid contribute to Cu(I)/HY-Al2O3 adsorption desulfurization performance. Cu(Ⅰ)/HY-Al2O3 is highly regenerable for multiple cyclic applications, and the best regeneration condition is at 500℃for 2 h. After 5 times cyclic regeneration, Cu(Ⅰ)/HY-Al2O3 can still recover 74.3% sulfur capacity fully.
