Objective:To examine the risk factors in stroke patients, the study has investigated their past medical history, lifestyle, diet, snoring and blood cholesterol levels and compared these factors to non-cerebral vascular disease patients. The study can provide scientific evidence for effective prevention and control for stroke.Methods:A case-control study was applied. The patients with first stroke were in department of neurology of some hospitals in Wuhan from October, 2009 to June, 2010 were chosen as cases, a total of 119. And 119 non-cerebral vascular disease were selected as control group from the same hospitals in the same period. The study adopted on-site investigation, and used the uniform questionnaire to collect relevant data. The data obtained with SPSS15.0 software package for statistical analysis.Results:1.χ2 test analysis showed that the differences of hypertension, diabetes, family history of hypertension, family history of diabetes, passive smoking, snoring, eating salty taste between two groups were significant and The number of stroke patients eating coarse grains such as corn, millet, potato were lower compared with controls, all P<0.05. T test showed that TC level in stroke patients was higher than those of controls (P<0.05).2. Sorted by intensity, the sequences of risk factors obtained from multivariate analysis for stroke were diabetes, passive smoking, hypertension, snoring and TC. OR and OR95%CI were 4.182(95%CI:1.210~8.451), 2.900(95%CI:1.474~5.707), 2.758(95%CI:1.411~5.389), 2.227(95%CI:1.167~4.251), 1.839(95%CI:1.287~2.627), eating corn was the protective factor, OR was 0.311(95%CI:0.096~1.005).3. A separate analysis of different types of stroke showed that hypertension, diabetes, passive smoking, snoring, the TC level were risk factors of ischemic cerebral stroke. Snoring and the TC level were risk factors of hemorrhagic stroke.Conclusions:A variety of factors were associated with the occurrence of stroke. In addition to traditional risk factors like hypertension, diabetes and dyslipidemia, the passive smoking and snoring were also risk factors. However, eating corn was a protective factor for stroke. Thus, in order to prevent and reduce the incidence of stroke, it not only needs treating hypertension, diabetes, lipid levels, but also needs to strengthen health education in smoking groups, to highlight the treatment on snoring, and to eat coarse grains often as well, so as to reduce the occurrence of stroke by having health lifestyles.
