Foreign language teaching, in nature, is a kind of cross-cultural communication, so it requires the communicators not only to be equipped with a good command of the target language, also to be master of rich cross-cultural knowledge. College English teaching should not only teach the knowledge and skill of the language, but attach importance to culture leading as well, which is the requirements of the language teaching itself and, more importantly, is inevitable because of the educational function of education.Based on the investigation and analysis on the existing state of culture teaching in the college English teaching, the paper brings to light the lack of culture teaching, and comes up with some strategies accordingly. The paper consists of five parts.Part one is the introduction, which gives an account of the origin of the study, the meaning and value of the study, the current study situation, review of the relevant literature, research approaches and the plan.Part two expounds the indispensability of culture teaching in college English teaching, starting with the relationship between language and culture.Part three analyzes the reality of the culture teaching from the perspective of teaching materials, students and teaching assessment, and analyzes the causes of the deficiency of culture teaching in the course of college English teaching.Part four proposes some solutions to the deficiency of culture teaching. This is the main body and core of the paper.Part five is the conclusion of the paper. It suggests that to create a dense atmosphere of culture teaching and learning plays a vital role in solving the problem of the deficiency of culture teaching in college English learning. Meanwhile it points out the limitations of the study and future research direction.
