Abstract

ObjectiveCompare with children who have normal walking ability, to find the biomechanics data and parameter of lower limbs in Cerebral Palsy (CP) children by plantar pressure measurement system. The observation would provide recommendations about diagnosis and rehabilitation assessment of valgus, and data in various fields of Plantar pressure.Method①T wenty healthy children with talipes valgus (17 boys and 3 girls, whose average age was 4.5±2.3 years) and 20 children with normal walking ability (11boys and 9 girls, whose average age was 5.6±0.9 years )were involved in this research.JPD1600 plantar pressure measurement system was used to perform plantar pressure gait tests in both groups of children, the data of dynamic plantar pressures in five segments of foot were recorded and analyzed with a computer.②T o measure dynamic planta pressure, let the child step to the plate from 2 meters before it, tread on the active area with left foot first, then return from other side, tread on the palte with right foot, collect the parameters as follow: contact phase, the contact area and the integral of time‐force of all zone.③T he subjects have been teached the standard way of walking, and do exercises. All the clinical data collecting and functional assessment were done by trained doctor.④Measured plantar pressure data of healthy children with the same method as the control group, then analyze the normal group and control group data.ResultsThe largest part of the contact area of normal foot is forefoot, then the heel, arch in turn, but in valgus, the contact area of arch is bigger than heel.Significant differences were found in plantar contact area, initial contact phase and impulse between two groups. Forefoot contact area of valgus significantly smaller than normal foot, heel contact area of valgus significantly smaller than normal foot, and arch contact area of valgus significantly bigger than normal foot.In normal children, Push off phase is the largest share of stance phase ,then foot flat phase, initial contact phase, forefoot contact phase are in turn. The children with cerebral palsy has poor control of the lower extremities, the foot movements are more difficult to lift, from longer to shorter, foot flat phase, Push off phase, initial contact phase, forefoot contact phase are in succession. The pressure of children with cerebral palsy valgus medial edge of the front paws was significantly greater than normal children. In children with valgus, medial edge of the front paws pressure was significantly greater than normal children. Children with cerebral palsy are often accompanied by flat feet, equinus and other symptoms, which pressure distribution are significant differences with normal children.ConclusionThe plantar pressure measurement technology have quantized significance in evaluation of the extent of valgus treatment. The process of metatarsal contact, the center of gravity forward, and toe push off ,can be seen from plantar pressure distribution. The introduction of gait analysis technology makes real‐time monitoring of gait in children can be achieved, provides a new method of assessment for the valgus foot ,with scientific and objective data.
