Abstract

Streaming media refers to the continuous media for data transmission on the Internet using a streaming technology. The main features of the streaming technology, users do not need to download the entire multimedia files to local, simply starting a few seconds of data to download to a local buffer can play. Meanwhile, the remaining data remains continuously transferred from the server to the user, so as to maintain the continuity of play. Streaming media technology in the development process, the most important is the development of streaming media transmission technology. RTSP / RTP, HTTP progressive download and adaptive transmission of the key technologies of streaming media transmission. The so-called adaptive transmission technology, refers to the same content of the media file may use a different the rate encoding a copy of the plurality of media, a copy of each media with different quality levels, and are composed by a plurality of fragments of 2-5 seconds , these fragments called slices, each slice are independent of each other. Copies of each media have different quality levels, so these copies of the slice corresponding with different quality levels. Adaptive streaming technology allows a client to request a slice at a time each time slice request different quality levels and changes in network conditions. As the network transmission, the impact of competition and different channel routing situation, the throughput of the channel is constantly changing. This is likely to cause video network transmission delay or packet loss, leading to the decoder buffer overflow or underflow, and ultimately makes the client video player to come to a halt and the obvious decline in the quality of the visual senses. Therefore, the introduction of adaptive transmission strategy is imminent. The main work of this paper include the following aspects: First, study the streaming media adaptive transmission technology, and adaptive transmission technology has categorized and comparison and analysis of study abroad the most advanced self adapt transmission technology (Microsoft Smooth Streaming and Apple Live Streaming). Secondly, the design and realization of a the Adaptive Transmission prototype system based on client driven, which is based on client-driven is the choice of the quality and grade of the fragmentation and adaptive stream switching by the client. Design client of the prototype system, a simple adaptive transmission strategy, using the average bandwidth as a benchmark and compare current bandwidth, network conditions in order to determine the quality and grade of the fragmentation choose. Again, there are many deficiencies due to the adaptive transmission strategies used in the prototype system, the Markov decision process model is introduced into the adaptive transmission strategy, the Markov decision adaptive transmission strategy is designed and implemented. The advantage of this strategy is to maximize the average quality level of the slice and minimize switching transitions and the number of times the quality and grade of the fragmentation, to better ensure the smooth playback of the video. Finally, using NS2 simulation software design and the adaptive transmission improved system, the improved system is based on client-driven adaptive transmission prototype system based on the introduction of a Markov adaptive transmission policy. Experiments to verify the effectiveness of the strategy of this paper, the adaptive transmission through the improved system to achieve the desired effect.
