Abstract


Objective:To observe and compare the clinical effectiveness of electroacupuncture and western medicine in the treatment of functional constipation with Spleen Qi deficiency.Methods:37 cases of patients of functional constipation with Spleen Qi deficiency conforming to the criteria of this subject were randomly divided into two groups.22 of them were treated with electroacupuncture and the other 15 were treated with western medicine. In the EA group, patients were acupunctured at Tianshu (ST 25), Sangjuxu (ST 37),Sanyinjiao(SP 6) and Qihai(CV 6) until soreness of Qi appeared. Such treatment was conducted 3 or 4 times a week. Patients in the western medicine group were treated by taking lactulose twice a day,15ml to 30 ml each time for 4 weeks.The constipation score of the patients in both groups before treatment and after one course of treatment was observed. The weekly frequency and the first time of spontaneous defecation of the patients were also observed.Results:The first spontaneous defecation appeared earlier in the western medicine group, but there was no significant difference (p> 0.05).After 4 weeks of treatment, the frequency of spontaneous defecation of the patients in the EA group was significantly higher than that of the patients in the western medicine group (p<0.01).The effects of electroacupuncture were better than the effects of western medicine in the extent of defecation difficulty, the feeling of incompletion, the duration of defecation and total constipation score. The clinical cure rate and total effective rate of the EA group were higher than those of the western medicine group.Conclusion:According to clinical observation, the short-term effect of acupuncture in the treatment of functional constipation with Spleen Qi deficiency is confirmed. Its effect is better than taking lactulose.
