Abstract


Since the seventies of the last century , the focus of foreign language teaching is gradually transferred from the teaching methods of the learner individual differences . Learning style is one of the main factors that lead to learners' individual differences , and its importance has been more and more attention of researchers . In recent years, research on learning style is not limited to the introduction and explore Western theory and results , more and more empirical research on learning styles . However mostly limited to college students, but few empirical studies graduate foreign language learning style . Therefore, investigation of non- English major graduate learning styles and its English teaching suggestions . This design uses empirical research methods, Jiangxi Normal 90 first-year graduate students as the research object , with Joy Reid (2002) perceptual learning style questionnaire and the Graduate Record Examination English scores as a measurement standard of English proficiency , design four research questions : 1 ) non - English Graduate favorite learning style what ? 2 ) gender differences in learning style ? 3) arts and science learning style differences ? 4) the relevance of learning styles and academic performance ? collected data social science statistical package (SPSS) 16.0 analysis operations are used descriptive statistics and T-test . The results are as follows : non - English major graduate exhibit a variety of learning styles, preferences, perceptual learning style they like most tactile and kinesthetic learning styles , and most people have two or more major learning styles . In addition , in the present study , the boys showed preferences for the visual type style , high scores than low scorers prefer kinesthetic and tactile learning styles . Liberal arts and science students showed significant differences in tactile style . Finally , based on the results of this study , the graduate English teaching suggestions , first of all , teachers should be aware of the student 's learning style and respect for each student's learning style Secondly, students should be actively culture conducive to promoting their own learning style and to develop their own style, so diversification Finally , the teacher can design a comprehensive variety of classroom activities , the use of the mode of perception of the variety show , as well as computer-aided instruction and other means to improve the quality of teaching .
