On the Application of Intercultural Sensitizer to English Classes for Junior College Students

Abstract


With the the English interlanguage evolution for the development of the international lingua franca , as well as economic globalization and information technology , cross-cultural communication more and more frequent , and thus becomes particularly important to develop students' intercultural communicative competence in foreign language teaching . Therefore , the present study design cultural simulation method is applied to cross-cultural training in the foreign language classroom activities designed to improve the students' intercultural communicative competence , thus enabling them to better adapt to the diversity of the world . The paper first reviews the focus of the three different stages of the foreign language teaching : from language skills to interpersonal skills to intercultural communicative competence , elaborated the importance of training and cross - cultural communicative competence . The second part of the article describes some of the theories about intercultural communicative competence , cultural simulation and detailed cross-cultural training methods , provides a theoretical support for the back of instructional design . In this study, the experimental teaching method . A total of 95 students participated in the experiment , called the experimental group of 60 health care professionals , 35 were the control group from the economic management professional . On the basis of analyzing the syllabus , teaching materials , teacher and student needs and characteristics , the authors determined Intercultural Communication Ability teaching objectives and content , based on the theme of each unit , a cultural simulation , design four units of classroom activities . Of two groups of students of intercultural communicative competence Intercultural Sensitivity Scale pre-test and post-test , on the part of students and teachers were interviewed . Data collected by SPSS statistical software analysis and comparison of the results found no difference between the results of the two groups of students pretest , and then measured when the two groups was significantly different , the results of the experimental group was higher than that in the control group ; addition , the teachers and 90% of the students surveyed acclaimed cultural simulation . Shows that college English classroom teaching cultural simulation method can effectively improve the students' intercultural communicative competence . In addition, the experimental data also proved Intercultural Sensitivity Scale in China are equally effective . Finally, the authors suggest that the best foreign language teachers in the classroom on the creative use of cross-cultural training , and many ways to improve students' intercultural communicative competence .
