Abstract


English is an important part of the quality education of college students. Motivation is another important factor to affect second language learning success. At home and abroad for English learning motivation research, but little research in Northern College Non-English Majors' English Learning Motivation. In this paper, the questionnaire survey method to investigate the factors that affect the the Yan'an University of undergraduates (art classes and sports classes except) English learning motivation. The purpose is to understand the students learning English, so that from the point of view of teachers practical way to improve students' language learning. Yan'an University freshman year to 400 college senior English major undergraduate. Questionnaire with reference to Schmidt (1996) the second language learning motivation questionnaire and Qin Xiaoqing high a rainbow of university students in English learning motivation survey questionnaire, by predicting ultimately determine the 50 about influence students' English learning, these problems involve affect student learning intrinsic interest, outside requirements, social responsibility, environmental factors, attributed to orientation, language anxiety, self-efficacy, the level of effort and learning objectives nine aspects, combined with interviews with 20 students in a face-to-face exchanges, further understanding of student motivation and learning Motivation factors. Findings with the SPSS statistical software, the use of statistical tools for the analysis of descriptive statistics, t test and analysis of variance. Through quantitative and qualitative research methods, and finally found that: 1. Freshman year, affecting factors, the average of students' motivation to learn in descending order to the fourth grade is learning objectives, social responsibility, language anxiety, intrinsic interest attributed to the orientation external requirements, environmental factors, self-efficacy, and effort; students in six of the nine factors that affect motivation factors (learning objectives, social responsibility, intrinsic interest, external requirements, the degree of self-efficacy and effort) grade between the significant difference; 3. student achievement with the selected motivation factors have a certain relationship; 4. boys and girls in social responsibility, environmental factors and learning goals three aspects of the existence of significant forward difference; 5. bias within the students with partial outgoing students in language anxiety significant difference; 6. different family backgrounds of students, there will be differences in the factors that affect motivation; 7. different age to start learning English, influential college students motivation. Of analysis through research, effective strategies to improve students 'motivation to learn from the teachers' point of view to put forward a vision for future research.
