Abstract


Metaphor research since the 1970s, not only in the field of linguistics, and philosophy, psychology, sociology and other fields caused by the growing interest of the people. Lakoff's theory of conceptual metaphor metaphor is not only a linguistic phenomenon, but also a thinking and cognitive phenomena. His definition of metaphor: The essence of metaphor is a class of things to understand and experience a class of things. Metaphorical expression language is the surface manifestation of metaphorical thinking. This article is within the framework of cognitive linguistics in the application of concepts the metaphor theory visits Chinese water as a metaphor of the concept of the source domain, mainly aims to answer the following three questions: (1) Chinese conceptual metaphors which water? These metaphors any characteristics? (2) Chinese water conceptual metaphor behind the experience and culture of motivation What? (3) the concept of Chinese water metaphor reflects a metaphor which cognitive function, plays in the formation of Chinese culture and philosophy what role? main data source for this study is the Peking Chinese Linguistics Research Center of Contemporary Chinese Corpus (more than one hundred million words), supplemented by Chinese idiom dictionary, Chinese poetry, more complete and diverse collection corpus. The large corpus classified analysis, the identification obtained the following results: (1) there are eight categories of water main conceptual metaphor, that the Chinese \\The experience of these water concept metaphor motivation mainly from three pathways of the body, the environment, culture. Chinese (2) there is a lot of water metaphors express the metaphorical target domain wide coverage; expression metaphor source domain vocabulary of water has a unique cultural identity; highest frequency of use of water metaphors to express Chinese idioms. Closely related to the formation of these characteristics and the geographical environment, the philosophy of \(3) Chinese conceptual metaphors of water reflects the cognitive function of metaphor, it helps people to understand abstract things, learn new knowledge, to provide a new perspective of understanding things. (4) The time is water, and moral concepts such as water metaphor embodies the elements of water as a natural, relying on the life, and the life and culture of the Chinese people to form a natural link to early Chinese philosophy to provide the basic metaphor also reflects ancient China directly to nature to seek understanding of the cognitive model of the universe and humanity.
