Abstract


Starting from the current situation of higher education research methods, the paper focus on the character of the Higher Education research methods history development. Based on this, the paper selects 4897 papers in 6 core journals on higher education from 2007 to 2009 such as Higher Education Research, Chinese Higher Education Research, China Higher Education, Academic Degrees & Graduate Education, Jiangsu Higher Education to analyze research methods. It analyzes and reflects the current situation of research methods, then discusses the development trends.First of all, the nearly 3 years higher education research methods present the following features, the higher education returns to the world of life from all; From the Angle of methodology, the qualitative characters in higher education is still obvious. Quantitative research takes over important position and research standards grow noticeably; In the specific method of hierarchy every research method has been uncovered and scholars significantly depend on a research method. At the same time, there are some problems in higher education research methods, Our current higher education research rely heavily upon qualitative research methods and insufficiently upon quantitative research; Experimental study theorized; The research methods are used in single and diversification of the research methods strengthen more; Research methods, to draw other research achievements, are more in theory introduction, rich in the system construction, lack in practices research and simple transplantation in the hierarchy.After a bit, the paper reflects on the current situation of higher education research methods that are for these reasons as follows: lack of awareness of the complexity of higher education phenomenon; excessive pursuit of scientific in academic achievement evaluation; higher cost in Higher education research cooperation; mistake of figures in quantitative research. Based on this, the paper raises the development trends of the higher education research methods: Firstly, the qualitative research will combined with quantitative research; Secondly, we will attach important to investigation study; Thirdly, further strengthen the experimental research, Fourth, we will use the interdisciplinary research methods more and further strengthen interdisciplinary collaboration; Fifth, the higher education research methods will be applied appropriately in standards.
