Abstract


As an independent art form, comics has developed for hundreds of years till today. Especially the comics of new period—namely, since the 1950s---has made astounding advances. A new generation of caricaturists both at home and aboard grow day by day and make their appearances in comics world. Not only inherit tradition, those caricaturists also inject vitality, i.e. new picture form, new-type aesthetics elements and particular symbolic language as well as abundant application of onomatopoetic word, into comics. In new period, rapid development of technology brings more and more new technical means to artistic creation of comics. Since then, the unitary traditional means of hand-drawing on paper was broken and various creation tactics begin to emerge. Besides that, comics transmission channels also experienced profound transformation during the technological change. New-type media communication brings the comics into new circumstances, which means a new period of comics is unfolding. This paper probes into the evolution and development of new period comics on the basis of comics history, analyze and sum up achievements in all aspects of new-period comics and try to make an overall summary.
