Grape is an important component of the modern agriculture industry in Jinhua City, and has been playing a great role in regulating the structure of agriculture and promoting the development of agricultural economics. Grape industry developed dramatically during the last 30 years, for example, the grape cultivated areas reached 5 447.4 hectares and yielded 100 305 tons, both of which reached one fifth of those of Zhejiang province in 2010. Recent years, the developmental model of Jinhua grape industry has been changed from expanding the cultivation area for high yield to improving fruits quality for high profits. To date, various grape cultivars, including European-Fox grapes and European-Asian grapes of different ripening dates, and various cultivated systems, including open field culture, greenhouse culture, pot culture, etc., have been developed. Due to these achievements, Jinhua city becomes the largest grape production area of Zhejiang province and wins the reputation of Turpan in south of Yangtze River.Albeit the obvious growth of grape industry in Jinhua city, there are several problems that hinder the further development, such as imperfect cultivars distributions, poor technological supports, low level fruit quality security and weak fresh-keeping techniques, etc. To solve these problems and promote an appropriate grape industry, production, cultivation techniques, and development strategies were studied here. We conclude that firstly, we need to develop various production techniques, especially on seedless grape processing, fresh-keeping and fruits quality and security elevating; secondly, to improve the cultivation systems, especially fertilizer-water integration for different cultivars, and extension of the grafted virus-free seedlings; thirdly, to promote sight-seeing function of grape industry to enhance its competitiveness. Based on these strategies, a resource-conserving and environment-friendly modern grape industry is expected to be established.
